Details of the Korean War

Q1. Discuss the details of the Korean War

The Korean War occurred between June 25, 1950 and July 27, 1953. It was a time of intolerance between two powerful nations of the world: the Republic of Korea (South Korea) and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea). The United States of America supported the South, whereas the People’s Republic of China and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics offered all they could afford to the North.

The American authorities played a critical role in initiating the war. They divided the Korean Peninsula along the 38th Parallel in 1945 after withdrawal by the Japanese Empire. It created enormous animosity between the North and South. The 38th parallel served as a political border between South Korea and North Korea.

The North attacked the South. The United States of America intervened by offering military support to the Republic of Korea to a tune of 88% in defense attacks. Within two months, the forces from South Korea pushed them back, and they needed the backup from the United Nations. China then came in to support the North Korean army. They were, however, pushed beyond the 38th Parallel by the defenders. The ferocity of the war declined upon effecting of the Armistice Agreement.

Truman’s goal was to stop the war from spilling into the other European nations. He chose to support the South against the North’s assault.

Q2. Describe how the New Deal affected African Americans, Mexican Americans, Native Americans and women

The New Deal meant that the members of mixed races (Africa Americans and Mexican Americans), Native Americans and women got permission to seek immigration after the race ended being a barrier to doing so. This came through the Immigration Act of 1952.

Q3. Explain the causes and effects of the Great Depression. Discuss in detail Hoover’s and FDR’s strategy to fix the economy. What eventually got the U.S. out of the economy slump?

The Great Depression started with the famous Black Tuesday stock market crash. It became untamable with the effects of the dust bowl that affected farmers across the country. It led to the escalation of the unemployment rate to 25% in 1933. More than 11,000 of the 25,000 American banks had closed down.

Franklin D. Roosevelt introduced social security scheme in the middle of the Great Depression to help and cushion the people against the adversities of that economic catastrophe.

Formation of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in 1934 aimed at insuring deposits in banks. They also wanted to restore customers’ confidence in the banking system.

Q4. Describe the opportunities or perhaps the hardships African Americans, Mexican Americans, women and Japanese Americans faced during WWII.

During WWII, men worked as soldiers. This gave women a chance to discover their role in the society other than what they believed (minor roles, as opposed to others left for men). Code talkers also got the opportunity to enlighten their native kinsmen in their own languages without fear of their foes. Besides, African Americans, Mexican Americans, women and Japanese Americans ceased being called second class citizens and had the legal right to education and labor market just like the white colleagues.
