Personality Essay Sample

I am not sure of when and how my love for pharmacy was born. Probably this happened when I gave my dear sister to the cold hands of death through its agent (this was the breast cancer); or maybe during the time I had to live with my grandmother and to administer drugs to her. Whichever way it was, I developed a strong passion for pharmacy and decided to pursue the dream with all the vigor I could have mastered.

Having gone through the series of life experiences that had steeled my resolve, I had developed the resilience, which changed my attitude in not considering the failure as an option. Life, being what it is, has brought different obstacles across my path. With the sheer determination and courage, I have been able to surmount these problems and forge on them. I had a dream to pursue it; and I was not going to give up. It would take a million of earthquakes and a zillion hurricanes to make me even think twice of going back to the dream I had pictured in my mind. All I planned to achieve was to become a pharmacist. I have so much love for the pharmacy career, that I would go to the end of the world to achieve what it takes to be a pharmacist.

Like all dreams, I knew I had to take the important steps. I also knew, it was not necessarily going to be laced with roses, but I was prepared for whatever was to come. I made a mental list of where I could get the best education in my chosen career. After having made the choice, I took the first step. I moved to Phoenix, Arizona, the U.S.A., in 2006. I was 24 year-old, naïve and not being able to utter a word in the English language. I felt lost. The determination stirred in me, and the sense of hopelessness had been lost. I got settled, found a job, and started my life in the United States. In few weeks of my stay there, I knew I had made one of the best choices of achieving my goal to become a pharmacist. I had come to the country that had everything to offer and to help me in fulfilling my dreams as long as I was willing to work hard. This was exactly what I wanted.

I started my English Language classes at the PVCC. The words felt very foreign in my ears. The professor must have been speaking in tongues for all it seemed to me. I attended the classes with all seriousness, as I knew that mastering the English language was important for fulfilling my dream of becoming a pharmacist. My hard work paid off. After one year of living and studying English in the United States, it has improved a lot. I could spell more correctly and had also mastered the use of grammar and tenses. Being proud of myself and raring to achieve more, I forged on. The desire to study pharmacy was still burning brightly in me. Before I moved to the U.S., I had a chance to live with my grandmother. She was a sick, sweet, little and old lady. She had seen her glorious years, and the toil of years had begun to tell on her. I was charged with giving her the arrays of medicine in the most appropriate time. I developed the arousing curiosity of reading labels on the bottles, which contained medicine. This, I strongly suspect, was my first inclination towards pharmacy. I would read the instruction labels of the medicine and wondered at everything how pills, tablets and suppositories were healing. I knew later that there were still many diseases which the science hardly could fine the medicine for.

I enrolled into a pharmacy technician program in Arizona. This was the way of furthering my quest to become a pharmacist in 2008. Armed with a pharmacy technician diploma and a pharmacy technician license, I was able to secure my job in pharmacy. Thus, I began my career as a pharmacy technician. This proved to be a new challenge to me. I did a little retrospection and this seemed to be satisfying for me and the result that I had achieved at that moment. I knew there were still many roads to cover, but at that point I was extremely proud of myself. My work as a pharmacy technician brought me closer to pharmacists day after day. This sealed my fate of making a career in pharmacy as I knew there was no way back. I was still planning my further plan of action, when the life made its cruel blow.

It was a normal day, and I was going gto start doing my affairs, when the news of my sister’s death hit me. She was struck by breast cancer after losing a courageous fight against the ugly monster. She was only thirty-two, and I could not bear the issue why she had to die. Several rhetorical questions began to cross my mind: “Why could she not be saved?”; “Why was there no cure for the breast cancer?”; “Why could I not do anything to help her?” Although I was deeply hurt by the death of my sister, I became even more determined to pursue the career in pharmacy. My pain turned into the positive mental energy, and I got angry with the diseases that were incurable. “I am going to find the cure for this breast cancer, other forms of incurable cancer and all other incurable diseases, so that they do not end the life untimely of people anymore”, I said to myself. The pain and sorrow of my sister’s death gave its way, and with the renewed energy and firmness of purpose, I planned my next movement. I was still going to school and working at the same time. My grades had improved tremendously with each passing semester. I was having the exact purpose and in most courses and I showed no signs of slowing down.

I am trying to get to the pharmacy school now. I believe in myself, and I know I have everything what may help to enhance my chosen career. Today I am reading about how victims of incurable diseases suffer and die. I keep wondering why I have waited for so long. When I complete the pharmacy school and become a full-fledged pharmacist, I will devote all my time to finding the medicine to these diseases. The death of my sister, though painful to me, has created a new breath for me.

In the today’s world, pharmacists and scientists work round the clock to find medicine for some of the deadliest viruses ever known to the mankind. It is the situation, which calls for some quick measures, if we are to protect ourselves from our onslaughts. The question of whether the human race can sustain a growing population of six billion and survive without the threat of incurable diseases killing us remains a hot question. I have been holding a job while going to school: full-time, simultaneously. It does not come easy, but with sheer determination and perseverance, I have been able to withstand the rigors. If yesterday I was asking myself why there is no one to find a cure for these patients, today I am asking myself why not me?  Knowing how important the pharmacy career is to mankind has given me an insight, and I am confident of my decisions as I wait patiently to achieve my dream.

My dreams of becoming a pharmacist still loom large in my heart. I want to have the opportunity to cure people, and I stand ready to grab it when the time comes. I feel the responsibility in front of the human race. I have the case against incurable diseases and would love to prove my desire to destroy them. I believe we stand at the mercy of the biological invasion from deadly viruses. I would like to create the history by finding medicine cure the incurable diseases. Of course, scientists are working around the clock to find cures, but I would just be glad to be the part of this.

I want to give my best to the career in pharmaceutics and to contribute immensely to the advancement of medicine and pharmacy. Except this, I feel I can find peace, when I find medicine that can help these suffering patients.

I believe that with my quest for excellence, hard work, firmness of purpose, positive mental attitude and resilience, I am ready to learn of the pharmacy full time to make my life-long dream come true.
